The Fragrances and Flavours Association of India (FAFAI) recently organised a curtain raiser at ITC Sonar Bangla, Kolkata to mark their upcoming Silver Jubilee Edition Convention & Expo. This was marked by a reveal of their special 25th edition logo – designed for the symposium. The event was followed by a high tea that allowed members to meet, interact and exchange ideas. Also, the FAFAI biennial Convention & Expo will be held for the first time in Kolkata at the Biswa Bangla Mela Prangan between the 23rd and 25th of February 2023, and will be supported by the Government of West Bengal. The event was also graced by Zha Liyou, the Consulate-General of the People’s Republic of China, and Daniel Sim, Deputy Australian Consulate-General.

In 1949, several enthusiasts established a fraternity in India with the goal of promoting flavours and smells. Fragrances and Flavours Association of India was founded as a result of this modest beginning, which helped traders and dealers in the perfume and flavour sector feel more united (FAFAI). In less than 60 years, FAFAI has expanded into a nationwide association with over 800 members, including dealers, manufacturers, and suppliers of fragrances, flavours, aroma compounds, naturals, and their ancillaries. According to Rishabh C. Kothari, President, FAFAI, the entire fragrance and flavour trade is perhaps a niche industry, but is a very critical one. This industry really adds value to any product that it touches.

Dr. Shashi Panja, Minister for Industries, Commerce & Enterprises and Department of Women and Child Development and Social Welfare of the Government of West Bengal, was the chief guest of the event. She stated the importance of this niche segment and highlighted that fragrances and flavours are an important part of Indian society. Though it needs a minuscule amount of fragrance to give value to a product, it can act as a game-changer and appreciated the idea of holding the upcoming convention and expo in West Bengal.
